3 job hunting top tips

We’ve welcomed four new recruiters in to the EMR family this January including Anna Jacobs, who arrives after a fun-filled maternity year spent running around with her four-year-old son Harry and now-one year-old daughter Chloe.

Anna is a highly experienced marketing and digital recruiter and will be working at EMR four days a week whilst heading up our digital and delivery teams. Fresh from a job search herself, here she shares her own three top tips for anyone hoping to secure a new role this year.

1. Utilise your network

There’s nothing like a job recommendation from a past colleague, associate or friend. Taking a role through a recommendation can be reassuring for both you and your future employer too.

2. Don’t be afraid to be honest about your experience and the experiences that you hope to gain

I always think that the ideal job is 70% within the realm of your existing expertise whilst offering 30% scope to learn something new; this could be a new market, technologies, or client base. Having a role just a little outside of your comfort zone will keep you on your toes and will also give your new employer confidence that you shouldn’t have itchy feet any time soon!
 

3. Take your time

This is easier said than done, especially if you’re out of work, however finding the right move can be time consuming and complex. Reach out to your network, partner with a trusted recruiter, and use social media and websites to do your research and due diligence. In a rapidly changing climate, it’s not uncommon for roles to evolve and for employers to build specifications around what particular skills YOU have to offer. Sometimes candidates find this frustrating but I believe it shows genuine interest and investment in what you have to offer and how your skills can potentially be put to best use.
