The FiveTen Group marketing team has opened me up to a whole new world. The working world. I have had great exposure to what working in marketing is all about. Prior to my internship I had bookmarked pages in newspapers about marketing and sections in books about ‘marketing exposed’. However, nothing compares to witnessing the day-to-day jobs of marketers first hand. Now, I have a deeper understanding of what marketing entails and all the different jobs and roles there are that make up the sector – I have evidence to the definition in my head.

My time with the FiveTen Group marketing team, which services the EMR brand, can only be summed up by one word: enriching.
I took part in this internship to find out who I wanted to be in the marketing world and all the possible paths I could venture down. At FiveTen, each person has their own roles and essentially, opinion on what marketing is to them. Meeting after meeting, one thing stood out, “each day in marketing at the FiveTen Group is different”. This is probably one of the best things anyone could say about a job. The marketing managers taught me the importance of digital communication in this day and age; the Bid Manager amazed me with her organisational skills; the Group Digital Marketing Manager showed me that excel spread sheets can be a friend too; the Group’s Communications Writer keeps the intranet alive; the Graphic Designers play key roles in creating brand identity and finally, the Head of Marketing. Well, he runs the show.
These last two weeks have been a whirlwind of meetings, tasks and investigations. I enjoy market research, which is odd to say, but true. I spent a great deal of time comparing salary surveys and websites to find out what the competitors are doing and how we can do it better.
I came along two weeks ago ready with my notebook and pens prepared for new opportunities and experiences. I am leaving now enriched with knowledge of the marketing world and ready to go forward with first hand experience of what I hope to be my future career.
