There has never been a better time to work in the marketing and comms space – and that’s aside from the fact that our latest salary research indicates the estimated total bonus pot for the marketing profession stands at a cool £6.1billion.
More than half (52%) of marketers questioned in our salary survey expect to see the profitability of their business increase over the next year and 44% expect a rise in staff recruitment. The result will be a continuation of the surging demand for new talent we have seen in the first part of 2015, as marketing teams are expanded and new positions created.
Marketers are now rightly reaping the rewards of their role in driving the broader economic recovery, with overall pay packets up 9% to a post-recession high.
One of the key challenges for businesses and marketing teams will now be how to cope with digital disruption, which means that professionals with strong digital skills will be particularly sought after and attract a healthy salary premium.
This provides a fantastic opportunity to specialise. Mobile marketing and search and optimisation are suffering from the greatest skills gaps at the moment, so marketers looking to sharpen their knowledge are best off focusing on these areas to really stand out from the competition.
Our data shows that employers are willing to reward top talent highly to retain them, but the market has now firmly shifted in favour of employees and with the number of stimulating roles growing, it is undoubtedly a great time to look.
