Forget Brexit, it's our birthday!

Forget about the doom and gloom, we're donning the office with balloons and bunting!

EMR officially turns 25 today! Back when we began recruiting marketing professionals on the 29 March 1994: John Major was Prime Minister, Ace of Base were in the UK Top 10, the internet was only five years old and Amazon was also just about to be founded. In that time we've grown with the industry, adapting and evolving along with the digital revolution in the way we work, communicate and who we recruit. Most of the job titles we recruit for now didn't exist 25 years ago!

Serrol Osman, EMR Managing Director reflects,

"I'm incredibly proud of the EMR business and the reputation we have built up over the last 25 years. The one thing that has remained true is our commitment to bringing together the marketing industry's most talented individuals with marketing departments across all major sectors.  We have helped over 12,000 marketing, digital, communications and investor relations professionals in this time, many throughout every stage of their career, and it is for this reason that we have a reputation for delivering service excellence in the industry. I'm especially proud of being awarded Feefo's Gold Trusted Service Award for 2019. We've also built a reputation for being a recruitment employer of choice which I'm pleased to say attracts the best in the industry; our team has a real passion for marketing recruitment which can also be seen in our Feefo reviews. Our flexible culture means that we have a diverse group of individuals, including several who work part-time."

The largest change to our landscape since we began has been the digital revolution. Digital jobs such as SEO and PPC managers, content producers and programmatic managers have been created, and who knows what is to come in another 25 years. A Digital Skills Report recently found that 30% of digital marketers believe that robots will do much of their jobs in the next 30 years. The pace at which digital transformation is affecting the industry means that there is a perpetual cycle to develop and perfect the skills required. Our latest Market Report, which will launch soon, has found gaps in digital skills and will highlight some key areas where businesses and candidates need to improve if they are to remain competitive.

Our annual Market Report is our 10th in production. And whilst we can't predict exactly where the industry will go in another 10 or 25 years, we do have the analysis of 1,600 marketing, digital, communications and investor relations professionals over the last 10 years to provide insights on pay, bonuses, hiring drivers and evolving candidate preferences. This year's report delves deeper in to the important issues of the gender divide, flexible working and the digital skills gap. You will also find reports on pay, skills and market sentiments across 14 disciplines and sectors; essential reading if you are planning to hire or develop your career this year.
