EMR Quarterly Market Summary

As we begin to move out of the economic turmoil of the past few years and into a period of long awaited growth, we are pleased to report there has been a noticeable upward shift in businesses beginning to hire again across the marketing, communications and digital areas.

Our findings match those of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), whose recent report on the jobs market indicates there was strong growth in staff placements throughout January. With unemployment down on the whole across the UK, we are beginning to see the tide turn as the job market picks up momentum.

Furthermore, whilst optimism is certainly growing amongst organisations the sentiment is echoed across the candidate market. In our latest market survey over 52% of marketing professionals indicated they felt optimistic about the economic outlook and over 40% of professionals anticipate changing jobs in the coming 12 months.

At EMR we have witnessed a marked increase in the number of candidates searching and applying for new roles since the beginning January and anticipate this trend will continue as more opportunities arise.

But what does this mean for the market?

Well the current outlook is certainly positive, with more opportunities for marketing professionals and an increase in the number of available candidates for businesses looking to hire new talent.

However, the sector still faces some challenges in sourcing candidates with “in-demand” skill-sets, particularly within the digital arena. Whilst talent may be scarce, the increase in demand from economic and business growth certainly has the potential to cause strain across the market.

Businesses need to begin thinking about the future of their marketing teams and long term strategies for talent acquisition. Organisations who adopt such strategies early on are likely to be the ones who attract and retain the very best talent on the market.
