A leading global institution is looking for a Media Relations Manager to join its London based team for 9 months. This is an excellent opportunity to manage delivery of the media relations plans, and to contribute to the development of the communications strategy.

Key Accountabilities:

Strategy/Planning

  • Working as a proactive member of the integrated media relations team, involved in the development of business strategies and plans, from a media relations and PR perspective, and challenging business strategy where appropriate
  • Scoping and defining media relations requirements with the relevant business management team
  • Developing and maintaining media relations plans in support of specific business objectives

Media Relations Delivery

  • Managing interface with the media and supporting Senior Executives and Industry Heads media engagement and public speaking events
  • Identify potential reputational issues that could impact the business and work with appropriate colleagues to minimise impact; planning & delivering practical & effective communications
  • Developing and managing PR campaigns and crisis and issues management plans
  • Provide effective media counsel to senior business stakeholders and client business management teams on strategic reputation issues

Communications

  • Drafting and gaining agreement for content of communications in line with communication plans
  • Ensuring that brand values and visual identity are incorporated into communication deliverables
  • Co-ordinate communication activities across the business

Measurement

  • Recommending appropriate measurement mechanisms and managing the process, in conjunction with other business partners, to ensure future communications continually meet the needs of the target audiences
  • Measure the effectiveness of communications delivered; recommend and implement improvements

The successful candidate will have a good understanding and working experience of all media (including social media) and how to influence journalists across all media, as well as strong project management, organisation and co-ordination skills (campaign planning and crisis management). You will have experience of briefing senior stakeholders and providing good advice and counsel, and of managing agencies. You will also have the ability to build strong relationships with key media and other stakeholders and act as media spokesperson on designated issues. You will be expected to have a good understanding of the use and application of communications techniques and be able to think creatively and solve problems with tight deadlines. A knowledge and understanding of financial markets and media experience in a large corporate body would be advantageous.
